Swansea University has embarked on an ambitious expansion strategy allowing a doubling of student numbers up to 25,000 by 2025. Due to the physical constraints of their existing Singleton Campus, a new campus was required and therefore the first phase of development at the new Bay campus, comprising 8 academic buildings and accommodation for 5000 students, was completed on 65 acres of former industrial land adjacent to the Bristol Channel in September 2015. DarntonB3 was responsible for the design and specification of the furniture, fittings and equipment contract for all of the academic buildings.
The university is now about to embark on the second phase of development, comprising new Schools of Management and Law together with accommodation for 600 students. DarntonB3 has been appointed to fulfil a multi-disciplinary technical advisor role during the procurement of the University’s development partner. This role will involve checking the proposals at each stage of design development prior to the appointment of the preferred bidder, currently programmed for October 2018.
