\\ New Offices & Training Centre
Health Education and Improvement Wales is a new body created by the Welsh Government, and will be responsible for the training, recruitment, mentoring and continuing development of all health professionals in Wales. Currently the responsibility for training doctors, pharmacists, nurses, etc lies with the individual professional bodies and it is hoped that the new organisation will bring a more integrated approach to healthcare treatment in Wales.
We were appointed in August 2017 by NHS Shared Services to provide Project Management and Multi-Disciplinary Design services for the creation of HEIW’s headquarters. The outline brief was to provide 200 workstations plus a variety of meeting rooms within an existing office building. However it soon became apparent through stakeholder consultation that a full training and interview suite was also required. Surveys also established that the building originally earmarked was unsuitable due to inadequate service and ventilation provision. We therefore assisted the NHS and the Welsh Government with the search for an alternative location.
Following the selection of Ty Dysgu in Nantgarw we developed the brief and design in conjunction with stakeholders from all the constituent organisations. The 2800 sq m building features a large refreshment / social hub area and training suite on the ground floor which is completely re-modelled incorporating a new entrance lobby, toilets and showers. The two upper floors contain a mixture of open plan offices, study pods, hot desking areas, innovation rooms and meeting rooms. Phase 1 is due to be completed and occupied on October 1 2018 and Phase 2 completion scheduled for January 2019.
